Lancashire Street At Night

Stage 1

Colour Pencil Crayons

Frequently my inspiration comes from the materials I use.

Lately, while tidying my studio, I stumbled upon a box filled with old crayons and a piece of card stock. It appeared to have been prepped for an art project as it was covered with a well-defined grid.

I began sketching – a night time cityscape, a street engulfed in darkness, with abrupt bursts of light emanating from a passing car…

Playing with these color pencils brought me immense joy, and I was swiftly overtaken by the medium.

I relished making marks, extending lines, building texture, and saturating with colour. I sensed that each pencil stroke held its unique expression, permitting these strokes to have their own life.

What does the Moon really look like?

I was observing the moon in 3 different ways: 1. without my glasses, 2. wearing my contacts and 3. with my glasses on. Every experience was different, the moon looked different every time. Which of these 3 images is the true representation of the moon? What does the moon really look like?
