Mysteries Beneath the Lake: A Hidden Past

A Hidden Past Beneath the Lake

This is my latest painting of Lake Varshavyanka. This isn’t just a lake. It’s a childhood memory from my hometown – and a mystery.

In the 19th century, it was a marble quarry.

Stonecutters dug deep – until they hit a hidden water vein. The flooding came so fast they abandoned everything!

Legend says the tools, carts, maybe even entire machines still rest at the bottom.

Or maybe there’s more – Some say it has two bottoms because an underground lake lies beneath the first…

I painted this from memory from the place where I grew up. But it does not really matter where this place is. What mattered to me was the feeling I poured into it.

Painted in deep orange heat and quiet blue sky, just like the Polish summer. The light here has a specific sound to it:

Like heat on skin. Like peace. Like being held by nature itself.

This painting is about escape. Stepping into another realm when reality feels too loud, too indoctrinated, too polarised…

It goes beyond politics, doctrines and dogmas. It is a place where you breathe out. Where your shoulders drop. Where you feel free. That was my intention. Not to tell you what to think. Just to offer a moment of relief…

This painting is oil on canvas enhanced with my dripping gloss technique, framed in a sleek black gloss frame that brings out the warmth and shadow of the lake.

A true statement piece – vibrant, personal, and filled with stillness.

The painting is in a wide black frame with a white inner frame, drawing your eyes into the scene.

This photo captures the essence and energy of Lake Varshavianka.
